Outlander season 5 spoilers: Jamie Fraser's struggles to force him and wife Claire apart?

Jamie and Claire Fraser (played by Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe) have captured the hearts of Outlander fans after being portrayed as the perfect couple.

They have managed to move countries and still maintain their relationship and keep their family in tact.

Now, with the family set to fully unite in season five on Fraser’s Ridge, could the couple be about to split after troubles ahead?

Season five will see Jamie attempt to track down Murtagh Fraser (Duncan Lacroix) after finding out he is still alive.

It will be up to Jamie to find him and bring about some justice.

Executive producer and show runner Matthew B. Roberts has spoken out what lies ahead for the Frasers and it does not sound convincing.

He revealed to Parade.com: “There’s some fantastic stuff coming up with how Jamie and Claire have to navigate this.

“Let’s just say Jamie is clearly between a rock and a hard place, the rock being his signed oath to the Crown, to Governor Tryon [Tim Downie], for the land that they live on, and his loyalty and his love for Murtagh.

“So, that is going to cause the Frasers some trouble as we go forward in season five and we’ll see how they get out of it or if they get out of it.”

Fans would be heartbroken if the Frasers were to fall apart after five seasons of beautiful memories for fans.

The producer also reveals a scene from season four that had to be cut because Laura Donnelly, who plays Jamie’s sister Jenny, was not available for filming.

He revealed: “We had to very quickly revamp the story. That’s really one of the big differences between the book and doing it as a television show.

“In the book, everybody in every place is available any time. That’s not the case with us. Sometimes random things dictate what ends up in the story.

“As a fan or audience member when you view it, you can go, ‘God, why did they make that decision? Diana did it this way in the book’.”

Meanwhile, Sam has also spoke to Parade.com and teased the struggles Jamie will have in the future.

He said: “I can’t give away too much, obviously.

“But, as we saw in season four, Jamie’s on the side of the Redcoats.

“He’s made this deal with the Redcoats, the British Army, so he’s actually on the opposite side of the side where his allegiance really is and his loyalty lies, but he knows he needs to do it.”

Despite being on the wrong side of the battle, Sam then explained why Jamie is working so hard.

He revealed: “He needs to do it for his family and for his tenants.”

Executive producer Maril Davies has also teased the difficulties Jamie will face in season five.

Outlander season five is expected to return to STARZ and Amazon Prime Video later this year.
