French Open order of play DAY 8: Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer in Roland Garros action

Rafael Nadal returns to centre-court action at Roland Garros and faces Juan Ignacio Londero as he looks to take another step closer to a 12th French Open title.

Nadal has seen off two German qualifiers in Yannick Hanfmann and Yannick Maden and beat Belgium’s David Goffin on his way into the fourth round.

When asked about his mindset when stepping out onto court and the Spaniard explained it all depends on his current form.

“[It’s to] play well and win. That’s all,” Nadal said.

“My mindset is just go on court with a plan and with clear ideas.

“And, of course, it’s not the same when you are playing well.

“When you are playing so-so, when you are playing bad, it’s always a different approach.

“That’s part of the competition, and that’s the sport.”

Roger Federer, meanwhile, takes on Leonardo Mayer after beating Norway’s Casper Ruud to each the fourth round for the 14th time in his career.

The 37-year-old has returned to Roland Garros the year for the first time since 2015 and victory over Rudd saw Federer become the first player to play 400 Grand Slam matches.

“It’s true I played many matches in Grand Slam tournaments, and it’s even more pleasant to do this in Roland Garros,” Federer said after accomplishing the feat.

“Because I have a lot of records, milestones from Wimbledon or the US Open. But doing anything in Roland is very special, because I played a lot here.

“It was my first Grand Slam where I was in the main draw.”
