The First Lady of United States gifted the Empress Masako a gift with a link to her days studying in the US. The Empress studied at Harvard University and upon meeting the First Lady she was given a red fountain pen made from an oak tree that stands within university’s grounds. In return for the fountain pen, the First Lady received an ornamental Japanese box.
