Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Mike Phelan have encouraged the club’s board to move for Borussia Dortmund hotshot Jadon Sancho this summer.

Manchester United know they have to spend big this transfer window if they are to close the gap on domestic rivals Manchester City and Liverpool next term.

A centre-back, a right-back and at least two midfielders are understood to be on their radar.

Yet ESPN say Solskjaer and Phelan have both encouraged Ed Woodward and the United board to make a move for Sancho this summer.

Manchester United are hoping Edwin van der Sar can persuade Matthijs de Ligt to snub Barcelona and leave Ajax for Old Trafford instead, according to reports.

Liverpool, PSG, Manchester City, Juventus and Bayern Munich have also emerged as suitors for the player.

But Marca journalist Chris Winterburn has claimed United are leaning on Van der Sar to get a deal for De Ligt over the line.

“Re: De Ligt. Believe Manchester United leaning heavily on relationship with Edwin van der Sar,” he tweeted.

“Interest remains there but Barcelona still likely to get the deal done.

“United just exploring if it’s possible to jump in. Remember a lot of similar stuff with Frenkie [De Jong] and PSG.”

Manchester United are set to sign Ajax talent Dillon Hoogewerf.

Hoogewerf has attracted attention from some of Europe’s biggest clubs having scored 10 goals and provided six assists in 21 appearances for Ajax’s Under-17 squad.

He’s also represented Holland at Under-16 level, netting twice against Hungary and Italy.

Ajax’s head of Youth Education, Said Ouaali, confirmed the youngster is leaving for a ‘foreign club’.

But money could be an issue.

Fernandes, 28, still has three years to run on his existing contract and the Russian side have valued him at £26million.
