Terminator Dark Fate release date trailer, cast, plot: All we know about NEW Terminator

The Terminator franchise, which began in 1984 with The Terminator directed by James Cameron, is now welcoming its sixth movie: Terminator: Dark Fate. The film has been pitched as a sequel to Terminator 2: Judgement Day, thereby ignoring the four subsequent films, including the most recent, Terminator: Genisys, released in 2015. Terminator fans have eagerly streamed the new teaser trailer and are now excitedly waiting for the film’s release – but what do we know about the new Terminator movie so far?

The most recent Terminator film Terminator: Genisys failed to break even and so Terminator: Dark Fate represents an attempt to reinvigorate the franchise.

James Cameron is acting as producer for this film, with Deadpool’s Tim Miller directing.

The story was written by Cameron, along with David S. Goyer, who was a writer on all of Christopher Nolan’s “Batman” movies as well as the underrated “Dark City”, and Justin Rhodes, who is currently a writer on both the “RoboCop Returns” project and “Green Lantern Corps.”

What is the plot?

According to Paramount Pictures and 20th Century Fox, Terminator: Dark Fate is a sequel from Terminator 2: Judgement Day.

It is set more than two decades after the event from the second Terminator film, with Sarah Connors setting out to protect a young woman named Dani Ramos and her friends, as a liquid metal Terminator who is sent from the future attempts to terminate them.

When will it be released?

Terminator: Dark Fate is due to be released in the UK on October 23.

It will be released in Australia on October 31 and in the US on November 1.

Some fans expressed concern when hearing that Arnold Schwarzenegger would be reprising the role he first played in 1984, as the actor, bodybuilder and politician is now in his 70s.

But, Mr Cameron explained to The Hollywood Reporter, in September 2017, that there was one way he might get around this fact.

He said: “You don’t have to get around it. The beauty of it is: He’s a cyborg.

“And so, the org part is on the outside, meaning organism.

“And Reese says it in the first film: ‘They sweat. They have bad breath.’’ Because they were supposed to be infiltration units, so there’s this idea that flesh sort of sheaths over a metal endoskeleton. So that would age normally.

“So, obviously he’s the one that’s been in action and operation for a long time. And that’s all I want to say about the actual story part of it.”
