PS4 release updates for The Last of Us 2 and Death Stranding, PS5 latest

Sony has confirmed that The Last of Us 2 and Death Stranding are two exclusives that are definitely still coming to the PS4 and PS4 Pro.

It’s fair to say that the timing of when the PS5 is expected to be released has certainly caused some fans to question the future of certain titles.

While The Last of Us 2 has always appeared to be a sure-fire PS4 exclusive, Death Stranding and Ghost of Tsushima have never had such clear cut futures.

None of these three games have solid release dates confirmed for 2019 yet and with the PS5 expected for 2020, it’s fair to speculate over whether some project could skip over to the next generation of consoles.

But in a new release update concerning all three titles, Sony PlayStation has reaffirmed that they will be featured on the PS4.

Sony provided the news during a recent presentation, during which the company confirmed that all three were still part of the current-gen launch plans.

Sony spoke on the “outstanding roster of exclusive AAA games still to come” for the PS4, which is heading into its final years.

This statement was made while images from Death Stranding, The Last of Us Part 2 and Ghost of Tsushima were showcased.

This is good news for fans who might have feared several titles jumping ship to the PS5 in 2020 and beyond.

But from what was shared this month, it appears that Sony is sticking to their cross-generational plans.

This includes the end of the PS4 lifecycle continuing alongside the launch of the PS5.

Certain games will appear on both, avoiding the drop in software production seen with the traditional end of other console generations.

The obvious incentive to this is to boost game sales as high as possible, with the PS4 close 100 Million consoles sold.

It also seems likely that while these games will be released first on the PS4, they will eventually come to the PS5.

Other games seem destined to be released simultaneously on both machines in 2020.

In a surprise turn of events, it appears Activision will be releasing Call of Duty Black Ops 5 in 2020.

This would run against the company’s policy of launching games using their three-year development cycle.

As an example, Infinity Ward will be handling this year’s COD launch, which is expected to be Modern Warfare 4.

This would be followed by a new release from Sledgehammer Games, who handled the development of COD WW2 in 2017.

But it appears the standard formula has been upset, meaning the first Call of Duty game appearing on the PS5 will be Black Ops 5.

And this will also mean that Call of Duty 2020 will be a game released on both the PS4 and PS5.

However, other games are not expected to feature on the PS4, due to the hardware limitations of the current-gen of consoles.

GTA 6 is reportedly in development for the PS5 and Xbox Two and could be announced as early as 2020.

However, even if it managed to hit shelves the same year, it’s unlikely to be featured on the PS4 and Xbox Two.

There rumours of Rockstar working on an ambitious project that would be too much for the PS4 and Xbox One to handle.

But while PS4 gamers will eventually miss out on some of the top new titles, that won’t stop with Death Stranding.
