The lead up to the Fortnite Volcano event has seen a mysterious hatch spawn at Loot Lake, cryptic runes appear and dig sites popping up on the map.

And now Fortnite fans will have – hopefully – some of their questions answered when the Volcano live event takes place today.

A countdown timer has appeared in-game above the Fortnite Loot Lake hatch showing how much time is left until the live Volcano event kicks off.

It reveals the Fortnite Volcano event is set to start at 8pm UK time, which is 3pm eastern time and 12pm pacific time.

The start time for the Fortnite Volcano event – also known as the Snow, Nexus or Unvaulting event – had previously been revealed by leaker ShiinaBR.

In a post online @ShiinaBR revealed the existence of the the start time for the Unvaulting event in in-game files.

There have been plenty of leaks surrounding the Fortnite Volcano event so fans look like they have a good idea of what to expect.

According to leaks the Fortnite live event will see the Fortnite Volcano erupt and destroy Tilted Towers and Retail Row.

Titled Towers has long been rumoured to be getting destroyed in Battle Royale, and it looks like the POI will finally be levelled.

Datamined files also indicate that the Butterfly from the season 6 event as well as the in-between ‘Gateway’ dimension will make a return in the season 8 event.

It’s believed that this season 8 Volcano event will lay the groundwork for Epic Games introducing a brand new map with season 9.

The Fortnite makers have long said that they’ve got new maps being prepared for Fortnite, with it unclear when these new playing areas would launch.

In an FAQ post online Epic Games were asked about whether they would release any new maps for Fortnite Battle Royale.

They responded: “Yes, but not right away.

“Currently, we’ll continue making improvements to our existing map, including adding more points of interest.”

This FAQ answer has appeared for the majority of 2018 and for all of 2019 so far.

Maybe the time has finally come for Epic Games to launch one of these long-mentioned new Fortnite maps?
