NY Giants news: Why fans are ANGRY over Daniel Jones ’fact’ claim – Schrager

That is the view of Good Morning Football co-host Peter Schrager.

The Giants took Duke quarterback Daniel Jones with their first pick in Round 1 of the draft, instead of pass rusher Josh Allen.

Gettleman defended his choice two days later by claiming he knew for a “fact” that two other teams were interested in Jones.

And it is Gettleman’s choice of words that has frustrated Schrager.

“When you say ‘I know for a fact that two teams’, you don’t know,” Schrager said on NFL Network TV show GMFB.

“And that is why fans are kind of frustrated and saying ‘you can’t say things like that’.

“You can’t say things like that because it didn’t happen that way.”

Many Giants fans were angry with the decision to pass up on, who went to the Jacksonville Jaguars at No 7 and quarterback Dwayne Haskins who went to the Washington Redkskins at No 15.

Schrager believes the Giants can justify taking Jones over Haskins, the former Ohio State quarterback, but questions Gettleman claim that he agonised over not taking Allen.

“I have no problem taking Jones over Haskins and I think a lot of people in the league had no problem with that,” Schrager said.

“It was saying you ‘had to take him’, that you love and agonised over not taking Josh Allen.

“Josh Allen is a defensive player, he was most likely the best player on a lot of teams boards left, if it wasn’t him it was Ed Oliver.

“So when you take a quarterback at No 6, you can say ‘we love this guy, we didn’t want to screw this up we were scared’, but when you say, ‘we knew for a fact that two other team’s were taking him’, that is where you leave yourself open for criticism.”

New York came into the draft looking to pick a successor to their 38-year-old quarterback Eli Manning, but Gettleman hasn’t made it easy on himself on how he has justified his decision.

“I know for a fact there were two teams who would have taken [Jones] before 17,” Gettleman said last Saturday.

“It wasn’t easy for me to pass up Josh Allen. It was very, very difficult.

“But I think that much of Daniel Jones and his future as an NFL QB.”
