Moment BBC hosts MOCK Kim Jong-un and staff during Russia visit – 'Like a Bond extra'

BBC News host Kitty Kim compared the North Korean dictator to an “extra from a James Bond movie” as she commented on his arrival to Vladivostok to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Her colleague Matthew Price also appeared to join in in the mocking review of the “fascinating” footage of Kim Jong-un’s train, focusing his attention on video capturing North Korean aides cleaning the vehicle as it pulled inside the stations. Ms Kay said: “He steps out of the train at one point and doffs his black hat looking like he’s an extra in a James Bond movie.

“Not even the extra in the James Bond movie – the key character in a James Bond movie.”

Ms Kay continued: “We so rarely see the leader of North Korea travelling around abroad that we’re all fascinated by these little glimpses we get of him whenever we can.

“And if you need a job as a runner cleaning train, that’s clearly the country to be.”

The North Korean dictator has travelled away from his Pyongyang headquarters only eight times since taking over the leadership of the national Communist Party and the country at his father’s death in 2011.

BBC News co-host Matthew Price agreed that the footage from Russia provided world viewers with the opportunity to learn more about the habits of the hermit regime.

He said: “These trips are also fascinating because they give us a glimpse into North Korea and the way they do things.

“I just want to show those pictures of the train being cleaned again. Look at that. Those guys – what’s your job description? Chief train cleaner?”

Kim is scheduled to meet with Vladimir Putin on Thursday in a possible indication North Korea is looking towards Moscow rather than the US for an alliance.

Last week Pyongyang said it was no longer prepared to deal with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in future talks over denuclearisation, and confirmed plans to resume nuclear missile tests.

Tensions have surfaced in recent days over efforts by US President Donald Trump’s Administration to reach a deal with Kim to end nuclear tensions on the Korean peninsula.

The journey from the Khasan train station, close to North Korea’s border with Russia took about nine hours.

Earlier, at a stopover on the border, Kim told Russian state television he was hoping for useful and successful discussions with Putin.

Speaking through an interpreter, he said: “I arrived in Russia bearing the warm feelings of our people, and as I already said, I hope this visit will be successful and useful.

“I hope that during the talks with respected President Putin, I will be able to discuss in concrete manner issues relating to the settlement of the situation on the Korean peninsula, and to the development of our bilateral relations.”
