Irish leader Leo Varadkar refuses to release SECRET Melania Trump letters

The Irish Taoiseach has been in covert communications with the First Lady but his department is unwilling to let the letters go public. According to Independent.ie, his office says it would be unable to release a copy of the letter on the grounds of it dealing with “international relations”. A freedom of information request was sent to Mr Varadkar’s team to obtain the letters.

The response said it would not release the information but that the Irish leader wrote to Trump and his Vice-President Mike Pence five times last year.

Reports suggest that he was in touch with Melania in April 2018.

He also exchanged fond words with Mr Pence’s mother Nancy earlier this year.

That letter was the only piece of correspondence the department would release.

It said: “Your pride in the vice-president was obvious and he spoke with great passion about his Irish roots.

“I hope this finds you well and I want to wish you every happiness.”

The letter followed Mr Varadkar’s visit to Mr Pence’s home in 2018.

Refusing to release information that relates to international relations is one of the terms of submitting an FOI request.

The revelation comes as Trump’s approval rating plummeted in new figures released in a Politico/Morning Consult poll.

In the survey, 39 percent of voters approve of Trump as president which dropped from 44 percent the previous week.

Trump’s approval rating fell to 39 percent in August 2017 following a violent nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Up to 57 percent of voters disapprove of Trump as President.
