Star Wars 9: Rise of Skywalker has ANOTHER major comeback? 'It’s not just Palpatine'

Ian McDiarmid is confirmed to be reprising his iconic role in the trilogy finale, which is cinemas in December.

But according to an unconfirmed new report, there are rumours swirling that another icon of the franchise is also making a return.

Making Star Wars has claimed that Han Solo star Harrison Ford has filmed a new scene.

The website cites “several sources” as claiming that he has a sequence with his son Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), who killed him in 2015’s The Force Awakens.

The report suggests that Han does not appear as a Force Ghost, but is part of a “vision or dream type moment”, brought about by the Force Ghost of Luke Skywalker.

Mark Hamill, who plays Luke, is already confirmed to be back in some capacity.

Ford’s return has not been announced by LucasFilm, so it’s best to take this with a huge pinch of salt for the time being.

But if it does turn out to be true, does this mean Kylo Ren could in fact have a redemption arc in The Rise of Skywalker?

STAR WARS 9: HUGE CLUE ON HOW RISE OF SKYWALKER ENDS?

The film already has a slew of exciting returns in the works: not just Luke, Palpatine and other legacy favourites like C-3PO, R2-D2 and Chewbacca, but also Lando Calrissian.

Billy Dee Williams is back as the much-loved fan favourite, and said at Star Wars Celebration: “I ended up working with somebody I have a tremendous regard for — J.J. Abrams. I love his name. J.J. Abrams!

“I’ve been doing this for a long time, I think 60 years, and I’ve been fortunate enough to work with some pretty extraordinary people in my lifetime.

“I regard this as a real highlight for me.”

He added: “How did I find Lando again? Lando never left me.”

Lando is seen in the first teaser trailer behind the controls of the Millennium Falcon, while Hamill’s Luke provides the voice-over and Palpatine’s sinister laugh can be heard over a blackout.

Anakin Skywalker has also often been speculated about as someone who could return as a Force Ghost, but this is also completely unconfirmed.

Star Wars 9 is out on December 19 in the UK.
