Carol Kirkwood: ‘It’s a nightmare’ BBC Breakfast star opens up in off-camera admission

BBC Breakfast meteorologist Carol Kirkwood, 56, said a “thick skin” is needed when reading negative comments about her appearance. In an unearthed interview, Carol described her wardrobe as a “nightmare” as she spoke out about her outfit choices. She told Radio Times: “The wardrobe is a nightmare. It really is. You do get people who will write to you and be quite blunt about what you’re wearing and tell you in no uncertain terms that they don’t like it.

“So you need to develop thick skin.”

Carol went on to say she was also sometimes criticised for being “too Scottish”, but added: “99 per cent of the mail I get is lovely”.

Despite receiving some negative criticism, Carol Vorderman, 58, recently praised the presenter’s appearance on Twitter.

The latter gave her social media fans an insight into her time at the 165th Boat Race, which saw the rowing crews of Oxford and Cambridge universities go head-to-head on the River Thames.

Carol took to Twitter to gush over the weather favourite in view of her 397,000 Twitter followers.

She commented: “Just loving gorgeous @carolkirkwood in her waders in the Thames…..go girl…#BoatRace @BBCOne.”

Meanwhile, last week, Carol Kirkwood made a flippant comment about one of her producers during filming.

The pair travelled down to Brighton for a shoot and Carol shared a snap of the producer chilling out on a beach.

The producer was pictured relaxing on a pebbled beach while eating a cereal bar and holding onto a beverage.

In view of her 153,000 followers, Carol commented: “This is what the producers do whilst the presenters do ALL the work!”

But clarifying she was joking, she added: “Just kidding! @bbcbreakfastdog xxx GILLY!”

Many of Carol’s social media fans flocked to her page to comment.

One user wrote: “Can I be a producer? It looks fun and I like sandwiches.”

A second added: “Ooo I want a BBC Breakfast mug! Bet you’ve got loads of them!”

Later in the day, Carol seemed to have slotted in her own relaxing time on the beach.

The presenter shared a picture of herself smiling alongside a companion and a dog while sat on a deck chair.

She wrote: “Lovely on Brighton beach this morning.

“Thank you to everyone who has come down to say hello… including Roxy and her Mum @BBCBreakfast xxx.”

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays on BBC One at 6am.
