In her latest jibe against Ms Ocasio-Cortez, Ms Pelosi said a “glass of water would win” her seat, undermining the 29-year-old’s achievements. According to Newsweek, Ms Pelosi belittled her win over 10-term incumbent Joe Crowley last year. She now represents the 14th District in New York midterms.
Speaking at the London School of Economics, Ms Pelosi said: “When we won this election, it wasn’t in districts like mine or Alexandria’s.
“And she’s a wonderful member of Congress, I think all of our colleagues will attest, but those are districts that are solidly Democratic.
“This glass of water would win with a D next to its name in those districts,” she said as she picked up water from a table in front of her.
“And not to diminish the exuberance and the personality, and the rest of Alexandria and the other members.”

She added that most of the seats Democrats won were “right down the middle, mainstream, hold-the-centre victories.”
The dig is not the first time Ms Pelosi has attacked Ms Ocasio-Cortez.
Ms Ocasio-Cortez rose to prominence for her Green New Deal, which was announced in February.
The deal aims to eliminate US greenhouse gas emissions within a decade.
In March, the non-binding resolution lost 57-0 in the Senate, with 43 Democrats voting “present”.
Describing it as the “green dream or whatever they call it”, Ms Pelosi discredited it.
She told USA Today: “Nobody knows what it is but they’re for it, right?”
Ms Ocasio-Cortez did not publicly respond to Pelosi’s latest jab.
