Team News

12:50: Romelu Lukaku is restored to Manchester United’s starting line-up for the Premier League fixture against former club Everton at Goodison Park.

Lukaku is one of three changes to the line-up from the side humbled 3-0 in Barcelona in midweek, with Nemanja Matic and Diogo Dalot also coming in as Jesse Lingard, Scott McTominay and Ashley Young drop to the bench.

Michael Keane and Morgan Schneiderlin are drafted in by Everton boss Marco Silva, replacing Phil Jagielka, named among the substitutes, and the suspended Andre Gomes respectively.

Twitter round-up

Thompson: Would have loved to see Alexis Sanchez start today but thank you, Ashley Young is not starting… he’s been poor… C’mon you Red Devils!

Ally: It took for us to sack one of the best managers ever for everyone to finally recognise he was bang on about how bad the squad was. We are a mess!

Phil: Another must win game. Good team. Young finally dropped even if it does mean Lindelof at RB again. That front three should be able to offer plenty of excitement although they really need to up it from recent performances.

Alexis warning

12:40: Quite strong stuff from Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who has warned Alexis Sanchez and his team mates that the club will not carry players as he looks to rebuild the squad in the close-season transfer window.

“Everyone has to take ownership, keep improving, show that hunger that you want to get better individually and as a team,” Solskjaer told the Telegraph.

“I’m not just talking about Alexis. Everyone is under the same demands. But if we are talking about Alexis, he hasn’t been lucky with injuries.

“Since I came in, he’s had two long-term injuries and that hasn’t been beneficial to him. Some other players have had injuries as well. But I see the characters we have. I am looking at who we should keep, who we should move on.”

Alexis Sanchez has earned more than any other player in the Premier League this season to sit on the bench. 917 minutes on the bench which is £5,323 a minute…

Ole vs Everton

12:35: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was unbeaten in all 10 Premier League appearances as a player versus Everton and scored seven goals – his joint-best return against any side.

Are United running out of steam?

12:28: Ok enough about me.

“Look at where we were when we came in on 19 December and where we’re at now,” Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said ahead of this Sunday’s trip to Everton.

The answer is the same: sixth.

That is probably underselling Solskjaer’s impact somewhat, as he has lifted them into a position where Champions League qualification is a possibility.

But a 3-0 humbling in Barcelona ended their European ambitions this season as they slid to a fifth defeat in their last seven fixtures.

Has there been a drop-off since Solskjaer took the reins permanently? The Norwegian emphatically thinks otherwise but they need to recover from this mini-slump and quickly.

Antics

12:23: Sorry to digress away from the football – but indulge me for a moment.

I went to a surprise 30th birthday party yesterday evening in London. I arrived with a few others and felt like I’d walked into a reality TV show like Made in Chelsea or The Only Way Is Essex.

Everyone appeared to be the heir to a small fortune, drinks were £6.50 for a small bottle of beer and they didn’t accept cash.

I thought the cash thing was bizarre but I’ve just heard that they don’t take cash at the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium either. God I feel old…

Afternoon…

12:20: Hello everyone and welcome to our LIVE coverage of the Premier League.

Are you all enjoying the Easter sunshine? It’s been a beautiful weekend that I’ve spent indoors watching the football.

Not a complaint – just an observation so no need for the smallest violin.

We’re at Goodison Park today to see whether Manchester United can return to winning ways against an unpredictable Everton.

A 3-0 humbling at the hands of Barcelona in midweek saw United knocked out of the Champions League at the quarter-final stage, which meant they have now lost five of their past seven matches.

We’ll see IF Ole Gunnar Solskjaer can remedy that today. Standby for those line-ups.
