We’ll go four it next year

12:15: Pep Guardiola will launch another attempt to win the quadruple with Manchester City next season.

City’s bid to win four trophies – a feat never achieved in English football – came to an agonising end as Spurs edged them out in a thrilling Champions League quarter-final in midweek.

“I don’t understand in my profession saying I don’t want to win. If I lose it’s because the opponent beat me or beat us,” Guardiola said.

“I’m not going to drop any competitions because maybe in the future it will be better. Who knows what’s going to happen in the future?

“The present is this game and I will try. I will dream next season of fighting for the four titles, that’s my dream.”

Pawn: I actually think Mauricio Pochettino will man mark Kevin De Bruyne today hence Juan Foyth starting. Might not be him to man mark him though!

Morgan: Even with the changes I like this team and… Vincent on the bench?! Worked his way back. Now take your chance if you get in big man!

Dennis: Don’t get the line up KWP should be at right back instead of Foyth. Foyth should be at centre back instead of Alderweireld and where’s lloris too? Llorente should be starting instead of Son needs resting for Brighton on Tuesday.

Where’s Hugo?

12:00: Obviously there’s no Hugo Lloris in the Tottenham starting XI. Clearly had plans for Easter weekend, right?

Well apparently not. Here’s what Mauricio Pochettino said about the Frenchman.

“He has suffered a small muscle problem. Hopefully it’s not a big issue and he can be ready for Tuesday. It would be a risk for him to play today and that’s why we decided to leave him in London,” the Tottenham boss explained.

Team News

11:55: Tottenham make five changes as they return to the Etihad Stadium.

Goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, full-backs Kieran Trippier and Danny Rose and midfielders Mousa Sissoko and Victor Wanyama make way.

Paulo Gazzaniga, Juan Foyth, Ben Davies, Davinson Sanchez and Eric Dier – fit again after a hip injury – come in.

City, looking to bounce back from their midweek anguish and regain top spot in the table – make three changes.

Phil Foden is given a chance in place of David Silva, while John Stones and Oleksandr Zinchenko return at the back for Vincent Kompany and Benjamin Mendy.

Heartache = Motivation

11:50: Pep Guardiola has urged his Manchester City players to use their Champions League heartache as motivation today.

Pep accepts such anguish is not something players will be able to shut out of their minds quickly but he feels they can turn it into a positive.

“If you believe it doesn’t hurt, or we will forget it, I would say no, I don’t want the players to forget what they lived,” Guardiola said.

“When people expect now we’ve forgotten what we lived on Wednesday for tomorrow, that is not the truth. We would not be human beings. It will take time.

“We have to live and play with that feeling. What we lived last Wednesday in terms of emotion and just simple life was incredible. We were fortunate to live it, we were lucky.”

Can Liverpool remain focused?

11:45: City follow the visit of Tottenham with a trip to Old Trafford for the Manchester derby next Wednesday, an unenviable couple of fixtures.

By contrast, Liverpool’s next two opponents are Cardiff and Huddersfield before a trip to Barcelona in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final.

It would be understandable if the Reds – who are two points clear of City but have played a game more – were to overlook a Bluebirds side battling for survival and the already-relegated Terriers.

The dutiful Jurgen Klopp will remind his players to be on their guard ahead of their trip to south Wales as he said: “These are all massive games. None of them are won before we start.”

Sean: We’re getting battered today lads. Don’t worry about it. Always a write off this one anyway even at full strength.

Steven: How are we setting up with this XI? Good to see Eric Dier back! Might well need him the next few weeks with Winks and Sissoko being out! Praying Winks is back for Ajax though!

Craig: I’d be playing Kyle Walker-Peters instead of Juan Foyth just to keep things a bit more balanced, but never mind.

We’re going through changes

11:35: Plenty of changes in these two line-ups today. I’ll go through the team news in detail shortly – but it’s three changes for Manchester City and five for Tottenham.

The headline news is Vincent Janssen starts on the bench for Spurs, while young Phil Foden makes Pep Guardiola’s starting XI.

Starting XI

11:30: And the line-ups arrive. Good grief, is that Vincent Janssen on the bench?!

Manchester City XI: Ederson, Zinchenko, Laporte, Stones, Walker, Gundogan, Foden, De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, Sterling, Aguero.

Subs: Muric, Sane, David Silva, Fernandinho, Mahrez, Otamendi, Jesus.

Tottenham XI: Gazzaniga, Davies, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Sanchez, Dier, Foyth, Eriksen, Alli, Moura, Son.

Subs: Vorm, Rose, Janssen, Wanyama, Walker-Peters, Llorente, Skipp.

Twitter round-up

Alan: In the Mauricio Pochettino era – Danny Rose, Fernando Llorente and Moussa Sissoko have come back in and contributed after being completely written off – so why not Vincent Jansen?!

Alex: We’re gonna get turned over today and I do not mind.

Tom: Spurs will lose today – possibly quite heavily – but if we win the four after that we’ll get top 4, while we absolutely cannot afford more injuries by pushing players still knackered from Wednesday. Expect changes.

Oh let’s not, Alan.

Same again?

11:25: Even before these teams provided an instant classic on Wednesday night, the Saturday lunchtime kick-off looked to be the defining fixture of the weekend.

But the second leg of the Champions League quarter-final has amped that up several notches, not least because of its dramatic denouement.

The question now is: are both teams physically and mentally ready for their top-flight showdown? It is a quick turnaround but this is no time for reflection.

City need to rouse themselves to edge out Liverpool in the title race.

Meanwhile Tottenham have to temper their elation as Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United are all within three points of them in the battle to finish in the top-four.

Morning…

11:20: Hello everyone and welcome to our LIVE coverage of the Premier League.

Serious case of Déjà vu today. Can you guess why?

Less than 72 hours after that chaotic, VAR-ridden seven-goal Champions League thriller, we’re back at the Etihad Stadium.

I made the nearly fatal mistake of discussing Wednesday night’s VAR decisions with an amateur referee down the pub last night.

It was not an enjoyable three hours.

Anyway, we’re about ten minutes from finding out the line-up for today’s showdown. Standby…
