Game of Thrones: George RR Martin drops The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring TEASER

The second episode of the final season of Game of Thrones airs tomorrow evening, but author Martin still has two books to go in his A Song of Ice and Fire series. He’s still working on penultimate entry The Winds of Winter, with A Dream of Spring unlikely to release for several years at his current writing rate. Nevertheless, the 70-year-old has shared an exciting teaser for the final two novels. The author appeared on National Geographic’s StarTalk with Neil deGrasse Tyson where he gave a tantalising hint for fans.

It turns out that The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring will introduce unicorns to Westeros.

The reveal came when he described how he tries to be accurate, even in a fantasy world.

He told Neil: “I tried to be very accurate, for example, with horses.

“A lot of fantasy writers get horses all wrong.”

Martin continued: “They make them these tireless beasts that can go anywhere and gallop for seven days straight.

“You don’t give the horses wings on their backs, like pegasus.

“I have an interesting take on unicorns coming up in the new books.”

Making a tongue-in-cheek facial expression as though he’d accidentally revealed a spoiler, he added: “Oops.”
