Liverpool vs Chelsea: Steve McManaman makes Premier League title prediction ahead of Anfie

That’s according to former Liverpool hero Steve McManaman.

Liverpool take on Chelsea later today in a huge Premier League clash – arguably the Reds’ biggest of the season so far.

A win would heap pressure on Manchester City who will have a game in hand to play still.

City come up against Crystal Palace before Liverpool player later today and cannot afford to slip up with what will be just give games to go.

And McManaman, who spent nine years with Liverpool as a player, believes it’s the biggest weekend of the season so far for the two leading teams.

“This is a huge weekend in the race because, without being disrespectful to the teams Liverpool face hereafter, they probably have got a slightly easier run-in than Manchester City,” he said.

“That said, sometimes teams who are near the bottom fighting for their lives can make matches more difficult.

“Whatever happens, Liverpool have impressed me this year.

“Manchester City have an incredible team, an incredible manager. They’ve won the League Cup, are big favourites to win the FA Cup and have financial clout. They aren’t going to go away.

“The two teams at the top of the league have been outstanding all season.”

McManaman also noted that whoever slips up between now and the end of the season will be the highest points-winning team to lose a Premier League title race.

“It will be disappointing for the one team that loses it because they will get the most points ever accumulated for a losing side,“ he added.

“But I just hope Liverpool do it because it would end all that talk about it being 29 years.

“I made my debut in 1990 and it has been a long, long time but I think it is coming.

“They are arguably playing the best football out there. We certainly hope this can be a new era for Liverpool. If they win a trophy under Jurgen Klopp, it will start the ball rolling.

“When you look coldly at it, they have certainly improved every single year Jurgen has been there. His signings have been exemplary.

“They just need a trophy now to satisfy all the supporters’ needs.”
