Star Wars 9 title announcement: Is THIS how JJ Abrams will FINALLY reveal new movie name?

The conclusion to the Star Wars Skywalker saga, and the final third of the sequel trilogy, is out in cinemas in December, after concluding principle photography back in February. The title has still not been unveiled, and the widespread presumption now is that it’ll be unveiled at the Star Wars Celebration event in Chicago on Friday. Given that this is also when The Last Jedi unveiled a trailer in 2017, rumours are also abound that we’ll finally get to see some footage too.

It’s been reported that Disney and LucasFilm will not announce the title of the film before they screen a teaser.

This would make the reveal very similar to Avengers: Endgame, which debuted its first footage late last year.

In the case of that Marvel movie, fans were given the title right at the very end of the clip – and it seems Star Wars 9 may go the same way.

Mike Zeroh, a Star Wars YouTuber with a mixed track record on accuracy, made the claim in a recent video.

“One of the teasers has more action heavy sequences and has the title attached at the very end,” he said.

“The teaser and trailer would be revealed at the same time.”

However, without saying where he has sourced this “description”, he added: “It’s described that the other plan is to reveal the title well before the teaser trailer.”

He claimed: “Additionally, the title of the film is unlike any title before, and there is a reason they are keeping it a secret – since changing it a month ago.

“Once the title went through changes, it has something to do with the MacGuffin.”

The MacGuffin, incidentally, has previously been rumoured to be two things; the first being C-3PO’s memories. This, of course, is unconfirmed.

Whether or not this announcement strategy is correct will be revealed next week.

Assuming, of course, JJ Abrams won’t keep us waiting any longer.

Star Wars 9 is out on December 19.
