iPhone SE 2 release news as latest report offers good and bad news for Apple fans

Apple’s iPhone SE has been a hugely popular device with it offering good performance in a much smaller package.

However, with Apple having not updated this phone in over two years it is beginning to look a little outdated and underpowered for the demands many consumers now expect from their smartphones.

There’s been plenty of chatter about an update to this device with numerous concepts appearing online which offer a teasing glimpse at how this new phone could look.

One such video from ConceptsiPhone has now been viewed over 500,000 times with Apple fans clearly liking what they see.

Although Apple continues to stay tight-lipped about the future of the SE a new report from DigiTimes may shed some light on what’s coming next from the US firm.

The news site claims that Apple will launch three devices which will include a 6.06-inch device, a 6.67-inch model and 5.42-inch smartphone.

If true it could mean Apple is finally ready to refresh the SE and offer consumers something smaller than is currently available.

All of Apple’s most recent launches have featured bigger designs with iPhone XR and Xs both arriving with screens larger than 5.8-inches.

Another nugget of information that could back up these claims is that the display might feature Samsung Display’s Y-Octa or LG Display’s TOE touch technology.

According to Digitimes these promise to “trim down the cost” which is exactly what Apple would want if it follows the SE’s lower pricing strategy.

So that might be the good news for fans who want a smaller iPhone on a cheaper budget but there is also some bad news.

This latest report says that Apple won’t release these devices until 2020 and that means there could be quite a wait.

Apple almost always reveals its latest iPhones in September and if the US firm follows that usual release scheduled then we might not see this smaller device for almost 18 months.

We’ll have to wait and see how accurate these latest rumours are but we do know when Apple’s next big event is taking place.

The tech firm has already revealed that this year’s WWDC Developers Conference is taking place from June 3 in California.

Although WWDC might not sound that thrilling to consumers, this is where Apple will reveal the new features coming to your iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and MacBook.

The big event, which will see thousands of developers from across the world attending, will take place at the McEnery Convention Center in San Jose.

“WWDC is Apple’s biggest event of the year. It brings thousands of the most creative and dedicated developers from around the world together with over a thousand Apple engineers to learn about our latest platform innovations and to connect as a community,” said Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.

“Our developers are incredibly passionate about creating the next generation of mind-blowing experiences for the world through apps. We can’t wait to get together with them and share what’s next.”
