Star Wars 9 ‘title leak’: Controversial rumour SHOT DOWN amid wait for announcement

Yesterday it was claimed that the title of the final part of the Skywalker saga was simply Star Wars: Skywalkers. However the report – which stemmed back to the site Ain’t It Cool News – was met with widespread doubt by fans online. As the wait for any official announcements from Disney and Lucasfilm continues, can we rule this one out?

Jason Ward is the man in charge of Making Star Wars, arguably the leading unofficial Star Wars fansite.

Via his podcast Now This Is Podcasting, Ward has become something of an authority figure when it comes to inside info on future projects from within the franchise.

And, perhaps unsurprisingly, this title rang no bells with him.

When one follower asked him about the Skywalkers title, he responded: “I haven’t heard that personally.”

Other rumoured titles over recent months have included A New Order, Balance of the Force and – in a nod to the 1977 original – The Last Hope.

However still nothing has been given away by top bosses, including writer-director JJ Abrams – with even the cast suggesting they’re in the dark over what the film is actually called.

Episode 9 is now running behind the marketing schedule for its two predecessors, despite a similar release date: The Last Jedi’s moniker was unveiled in late January, while The Force Awakens’ name was released over a year before it hit screens.

This one, however, is cutting it a little more fine: it’s out in just eight months, and completed principle photography back in February.
