Chris Evans: 'I've got a serious issue!' Virgin Radio host backtracks on Strictly 2019

Chris Evans, 53, has been open about the prospect of him competing on the new series of Strictly Come Dancing.

And chatting to professional dancer Anton du Beke, 52, on his radio show last week, Chris appeared to dampen hopes of him being able to appear on it.

Chris addressed Anton returning to the show for another year, to which the author replied: “And so are you!”

Laughing, Chris defended: “I’ve got an issue about my left knee!”

“I’ve got a serious issue,” he reiterated. “Vassos’ [Vassos Alexander] mate, the knee doctor, is inspecting my knee.”

Anton didn’t believe his knee would be an issue as he replied: “I can lift you!”

He continued: “That’s what I do with everyone else I dance with.”

Chris has continually said he is set to join the line-up when it returns in September to BBC One, despite an official announcement not yet being made.

The star previously opened up last month about the role and told professional dancer Kevin Clifton, 36, he is all ready to go and has “got his contract”.

He spilled to the Grimsby-born star: “I’ve got my contract.

“I’ve got to go for a medical because I’ve got a dodgy left knee so I can run on it, I can go straight but I have an issue with my knee so that could be a problem.”

Kevin responded joking that the best way to solve the problem was to go on a night out with him.

Meanwhile, Chris updated listeners about his family and wife Natasha Shishmanian, 40, on the radio show recently.

The presenter told fans his wife is now “back at the bar” after finishing breastfeeding their young twins, Walt and Boo.

He joked he had had a bit of a boozy night, quipping: “Mrs Evans’ doing, not mine, for once.”

Chris then laughed: “Now the babies are off the boob, she’s back at the bar.”

The couple welcomed Walt and Boo in September and are also parents to 10-year-old Noah and six-year-old Eli.

Chris has a grown-up daughter from his prior relationship with Alison Ward.

Virgin Radio Breakfast Show with Chris Evans continues weekdays at 6.30am.

Strictly Come Dancing 2019 returns later this year to BBC One.
