Katie Piper in A&E on Mother's Day as she gets X-ray and stitches following accident

The TV star and author, 35, was left blind in one eye following a horrific acid attack which was orchestrated by her ex-boyfriend over 10 years ago. Last night, mother-of-two Katie Piper told her 860,000 Instagram followers she had ended Mother’s Day in hospital. “The down side of being blind in one eye is no peripheral vision,” she wrote on her story. “Which means you don’t notice the drinking glass by the side of you…” She then shared a picture of her bandaged wrist, saying: “Have to say the NHS staff were so kind and helpful.

“We are so lucky to access free medical care when we need it,” she added.

“An X-ray and 5 stitches later and I’m going home,” she told her fans.

Katie seemed to be in high spirits in spite of the injury, quipping: “Is it really bad that I’m thrilled it was my left hand and not the right one so I can still use my phone?”

Prior to cutting her arm, Katie looked to be enjoying Mother’s Day with her family.

Earlier in the day, she shared a picture with three more women, saying: “Mother’s Day lunch with the mums in my family.

“Now on for a second meal for the Mother on my in-laws’ side!” she added.

Katie was left with severe burns to her face and chest after her ex-boyfriend Daniel Lynch organised for an accomplice, Stefen Sylvestre, to throw acid over her on March 31, 2008.

She has since undergone over 40 surgeries to help fix the damage caused by the acid, including many reconstructive procedures.

In 2009, her ex was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum of 16 years behind bars, while her attacker was given life with a minimum of six years.

Last year, the attacker was released from prison on parole.

At Christmas, she shared a poignant series of pictures of her journey to recovery.

Looking back at how much had changed since the attack, Katie marked her progress, with one picture taken at the time, a second a year ago, the third seven years ago and the fourth nine years ago.

“Time flies, mindset changes, new challenges arise but always grateful for life,“ she captioned the post.

The earliest image showed Katie wearing a solid plastic mask which was used to help with the injuries and reconstructive surgeries she had in the wake of the attack.

The next saw her showing the scars on her face and neck just a few years after she suffered the acid burns.

In the third, she cuddled her daughter Penelope in bed and the fourth she smiled for the camera, looking happy, healthy and relaxed as she prepared to enjoy Christmas at home with her family.
