LeBron James: Lakers star must do this to convince Kyrie Irving to SNUB Knicks – pundit

That’s the take from ESPN’s Max Kellerman, who believes the two former Cleveland Cavaliers team-mates need to reunite.

Irving unceremoniously demanded to leave the Cavaliers back in 2017, eventually being traded to the Boston Celtics.

His first season in Boston ended early due to injury, causing him to miss the playoffs.

James meanwhile singlehandedly took Cleveland to yet another NBA Finals, after beating Boston, before being beaten by the Golden State Warriors.

There was plenty of hope for the Celtics this season though with Irving returning from injury fresh that they would be the favourites to challenge the Warriors after James joined the Lakers.

However, it hasn’t worked out in Boston during the regular season, with Brad Stevens’ side struggling to build up any sort of form.

The same could be said for the Lakers, who will not even reach the playoffs with James.

Irving is set to become a free agent this summer and numerous reports have suggested the New York Knicks stand the best chance of landing the 27-year-old.

But the Lakers have also been mentioned, and Kellerman has revealed exactly what James needs to do to make it happen.

“Everyone thinks Kyrie is heading to the Knicks,” Kellerman said on ESPN’s First Take.

“If I’m LeBron James, he has to humble himself right now.

“They need each other more than they realise.

“LeBron has to pick up the phone and let Kyrie know, ‘brother I need you.

“‘You’re going to have the keys to this franchise, you don’t want to be in New York in that dysfunctional place. Come to L.A.’

“They could be Kobe and Shaq gone right.”
