Apple launch live – Major announcement TODAY as new Netflix rival set to be unveiled

Apple fans should cancel their plans for this evening with the US technology giant set to announce some major news tonight.

The hugely popular firm will begin its keynote at 10am local time, 5pm GMT, and expect plenty of surprises during the event which is taking place at Apple’s headquarters in Cupertino, California.

Top of the agenda is likely to be a new streaming service which looks set to take aim at Netflix and Amazon Prime video.

Although not confirmed, it seems Apple wants to replicate the success of its Music service with a video platform that customers will pay a monthly subscription to watch.

Along with movies and TV series to binge on, Apple could launch its own original programmes which is something Netflix and Amazon have both had huge success with.

Another new service that could be announced later today is the arrival of a premium news service which will allow Apple users to access a huge swathe of content from some of the world’s biggest publishers.

It’s currently unclear what content could be part of the plans but we’ll find out more about this later.

There’s been plenty of speculation about whether any hardware will be revealed at this March event but with Apple releasing a bunch of updates last week this is looking increasingly unlikely.

New iPads, iMacs and AirPods were all shown off during a product-packed few days and the only devices that haven’t appeared are an update to the iPhone SE and the new AirPower charging pad.

Many fans have been patiently waiting for a new entry-level SE and this would be a hugely popular launch if Apple did unveil it today.

However, we are almost certain this won’t happen as any iPhone upgrades aren’t likely to appear until the usual September updates.

With Apple now releasing its new AirPods, which now offer a case that can recharge wirelessly, the AirPower pad is far more likely than a phone.

AirPower, which was first announced back in 2017, will allow numerous devices to refill at the same time.

There’s certainly an interesting few hours ahead and Express.co.uk has made the trip across the pond to bring you all the news live as it happens.

We’ll have updates from 5pm tonight so watch this space.
