Alexander Armstrong: Pointless host hints he feels ‘under appreciated’ in Twitter post

Pointless host Alexander Armstrong, 49, narrates CBeebies favourite Hey Duggee and is often heard talking to friendly dog Duggee and the children. One Twitter user said the host is “massively underappreciated” in his role on the show. They commented: “Could be just me but I think the work of @XanderArmstrong as narrator of @HEYDUGGEE is massively underappreciated! #AWoofWoof.” Alexander appeared to agree with the latter’s comment, replying: “Hear hear!!!” followed by a thumbs up emoji.

Other Twitter users had their say on the post, with one writing: “The BBC manages to get some amazing talent for its kids shows.

“I’m forever grateful for the quality it puts out!”

Another commented: “The only acceptable response from Xander is ‘WOOF!’”

Elsewhere, Alexander has been fronting BBC show Pointless alongside Richard Osman, 48, for 10 years.

The latter opened up on the pair’s work relationship, referring to his co-star as “generous”.

He told Radio Times: “We’ve known each other a long time. I love him.

“We’ve never, in 1400 episodes or however many we’ve done, had a falling out or a cross word. He’s so enthusiastic about everything, which is great.

“He couldn’t be more generous as a friend and a co-performer.”

Elsewhere, Alexander recently revealed he played a live game of Pointless with the Queen.

The host met up with the royal at the Sandringham and West Newton branch of the Women’s Institute back in January, where he was a guest speaker.

At the event, Alexander said the hall was divided into two teams for a live version of the game; one headed by the Queen and the other by Vice-president of the Sandringham WI Yvonne Browne.

The Queen’s team came in first place after a best-of-five match.

Commenting on the result, Alexander is reported as saying: “I think Her Majesty and the team can be very pleased with themselves tonight and go back covered in glory.

“I think they can look back over the match and feel rightly proud of what they achieved.”

He added the Queen also had “some deft, silky Pointless skills”.

Pointless continues tonight at 5.15pm on BBC One.
