Kevin Durant: Warriors star can HELP LeBron James win NBA title, Anthony Davis key

That’s according to NBA expert Nick Wright.

Durant, 30, can become a free agent this summer.

The two-time NBA champion has been tipped to head to the New York Knicks or the Los Angeles Clippers at the end of the season.

Durant has revealed he’s only focused on making as much money as possible this summer.

The former Oklahoma City Thunder star has won back-to-back titles with the Warriors since moving to the Bay Area.

However, if the forward leaves Golden State this summer, the Warriors’ dominance could come to an end.

LeBron James’ Lakers will miss the playoffs this season after injuries hindered their post-season hopes.

And Wright says Durant’s free agency decision this summer will dictate whether James wins his fourth NBA championship – and brings a title to LA.

When asked if James can win a title in LA, Wright said on Fox Sports’ First Things First: If KD leaves the Warriors, I think the answer is yes.

That makes KD as powerful this offseason as any player we’ve seen in NBA history.

If KD leaves the Warriors, there will be 10 teams that go into next season – depending on how free agency falls – with legitimate title aspirations.

“The top half of the playoff teams in the east and all of the playoff teams in the west.

“What if Durant signs a real full extension with the Warriors, that would cross a line through LeBron James’ championship window.

“I do think the Lakers are going to be much better next year. Will they be better enough to reach the gap to the Warriors? I don’t.

“They need Golden State to take a major step backwards, which would mean losing Kevin Durant, and then also adding another star. It has to be both.

“I don’t think the Lakers, even if they add Anthony Davis, are in position with the coaching staff and supporting players to go into a seven-game series with Durant, Steph [Curry], Klay [Thompson] and Draymond [Green] – and beat them.

“I’m not closing the championship window on LeBron but Durant has more to say about this than anyone in basketball.”
