The Bollywood actress crossed over to Hollywood in 2017 with xXx: Return of Xander Cage alongside Vin Diesel, and is expected to return for xXx 4 in the near future. But before that, she has another exciting project ahead – and she’s revealed that it’s kicking off very soon indeed. After a bit of a break following the release of Padmaavat, fans will be delighted.
She is set to play a real-life acid attack survivor in her new drama.
And the good news is that it will start production in a matter of days.
“I start filming on my next film, it’s called Chhapaak,” she told Metro.
“It’s a story inspired by the acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal.
“It’s not a biopic it is inspired by her life and it’s directed by Meghna Gulzar, and we start working on that next week.
“We start filming next week.”
In the same interview with the UK publication, Padukone also called for Marvel to introduce a superhero of Indian origin to the MCU.
“I mean I’d say Indian origin,” she said. “So whether it’s Marvel or whether it’s Avengers, or you know, any of these iconic characters that we’ve seen in cinema, I think it would be very interesting.
“And I think the world is ready for it to see one of these superheroes, one that originates from India.”
The star married Ranveer Singh last year, and recently spoke out on the pressure newlywed women face in terms of pregnancy.
“Of course, [motherhood] will happen at some point but no, I think it is unfair to put women through that, to put a couple through that [pressure],” she said.
“I guess the day we stop asking the questions is when we will bring about change.”
Chhapaak does not currently have a release date.
