Speaking on Jimmy Fallon’s chatshow last night, Isaac revealed that his final day on the set of the as-yet-untitled Star Wars: Episode 9 was also the end of an era for Anthony Daniels – who has appeared in every film. Isaac told Fallon that they share a lot of scenes together, leading Daniels to proclaim that this was his favourite to work on.
On completing Episode 9, Isaac said: “It was such a milestone.
“And what’s particularly special is the day that I finished – these three massive movies, such a huge part of my life – it was like, ‘okay, Oscar’s done,’ so I said a few words.
“And then it was, ‘and it’s also Anthony Daniels’ last day on set!’
“Way to take the thunder…!”
He went on: “He’s been there from the very beginning.
“Originally George Lucas saw the whole thing as a story about C-3PO and R2D2; these two droids who witness all this history.”
When Fallon asked how Daniels was on his final day, Isaac spilled: “He was super emotional about it.
“And I think, and I mean it, he kept saying this was the most fun he’s had. He had so many fun things to do.
“We got to work a lot together and it was amazing to see that piece of history up close.”
Star Wars 9 wrapped last month and the title and trailer are rumoured to be dropped at Star Wars Celebration next month.
Isaac will be joined in the cast by a returning Mark Hamill, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran and – courtesy of archive footage – Carrie Fisher.
Star Wars 9 is out on December 19 in the UK.
