April the giraffe March 15 update

On Friday, March 15, April’s carers reported possible signs of contractions, masking as muscle spams near her belly and hip.

The zookeepers said all staff are now cautious when around the giraffe and are keeping their distance as a result.

Animal Adventure Park said: “While her interest in treats was obvious to cam viewers, she was cautious of those around her.

“Keepers also observed ‘spasms’ in the muscles where the ‘belly’ meets the ‘hip’, which could be contractions.

“Based on all observations, as a precaution, teams did bed down the stall with additional substrate in the event of an evening or early morning delivery.”

“The laptop even went to bed with me so I could check on her throughout the night. I watched Tajiri come into this world.”

Ashley Ikenberg said: “April, stop tricking us! Bring that baby in on March 16.”

Jamie Rusk-Blume said: “My six-year-old daughter was very excited April was having a baby when I told her last week.

“The very first thing she exclaimed was ‘April will have her baby on March 15!’

“We have excitedly been watching the Giraffe Cam and never miss seeing the keepers come in the evening.
