Celtic news: The incredible fee Leicester paid to seal Brendan Rodgers deal in full

Rodgers left Glasgow at the end of February after being approached by Leicester, who had just sacked Claude Puel.

The Northern Irishman had a contract until 2021 with Celtic, and was on the verge of sealing a treble-treble with the Scottish giants.

Leicester’s overtures were too much to turn down, however, and Rodgers joined the Foxes two days into their search for a new head coach.

With him came assistant manager Chris Davies, first-team coach Kolo Toure and head of performance Glen Driscoll.

The Telegraph are reporting that the raiding process cost the King Power club £9million, all told.

That more than doubles the £4m Everton paid Watford for the disruption caused in their pursuit of Marco Silva, and is among the highest fees of this like paid in the Premier League.

Large sections of Celtic fans were left infuriated by Rodgers’ departure, and sang derogatory songs about him in the immediate game following his exit.

The 46-year-old’s wife and step-daughter, still in Glasgow as of last week, then suffered a scare when thieves targeted their home.

“It’s the first steps of a really exciting journey for us,” he said. “From the first day we’ve set up a clear vision of how we want to work.

“The environment is very important. I’ve found a really young group of players, which I was aware of, with some really experienced group around it.

“It’s a really exciting job here because of the improvements that I see we can make to the team.

“I think they have enjoyed the work so far but we still have a lot of work to do.”
