Jan-Michael Vincent dead: Airwolf star dies aged 74 after suffering cardiac arrest

Jan-Michael Vincent died back on February 10 after suffering a cardiac arrest whilst a patient at a North Carolina hospital, according to TMZ.

The US publication, who obtained the death certificate, reports no autopsy was performed and Jan-Michael was later cremated.

The American actor last worked in film, White Boy, in 2002.

The star began his career in the California Army National Guard in the 1960s.

He went onto achieve his first acting job in movie The Bandits, which was released in 1967.

He found fame playing helicopter pilot, Stringfellow Hawke, on the TV series Airwolf.

The popular show ran from 1984 to 1986 and earned Jan-Michael $200,000 per episode, making him the higher paid actor on television at the time.

After the series was axed, Jan-Michael starred in a few low-profile roles and went on to battle drink and drug problems.

In 1996, he suffered multiple injuries in a serious car accident, which left him with broken vertebrae in his neck and sustained permanent damage to his vocal chords.

Jan-Michael was charged with drunk driving after the accident where he was sentenced to rehab.

Twelve years later, Jan-Michael was involved in another serious car accident.

He revealed he contracted a leg infection as a result complications from peripheral artery disease.

The infection became so severe, doctors had to amputate the lower half of his right leg.

Jan-Michael had a prosthetic limb and later admitted he had a lot to be thankful for.

“I look at this now and think I have nothing to be upset about when I think about what our U.S. military go through,” he told the National Enquirer.

“They’re the real heroes.”

Fans paid tribute to the late actor on Twitter with one person writing: “Jan-Michael Vincent legend sadly gone.”

Another said: “Farewell, Jan-Michael Vincent. Sorry so much of life was so painful for you. #janmichaelvincent #bigwednesday.”

A third added: “RIP Jan-Michael Vincent. I loved Airwolf as a kid and he was in countless other great things. Sad day.

One fan commented: “Airwolf was one of my favourite shows back in the day. How tragic we just learned about the passing of Jan-Michael Vincent, who died almost a month ago. Rest In Peace, Hawke.”

Jan-Michael is survived by his third wife, Patricia Ann, who he married in 1999.
