Premier League top scorers: Salah top despite Man Utd vs Liverpool blank, Kane closes gap

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah remains top of the Premier League goalscoring charts despite failing to bag in Sunday’s draw with Manchester United.

The Egyptian travelled to Old Trafford hoping to get his first goal against the Red Devils since moving to Anfield in the summer of 2017.

But he was unable to find the back of the net as Jurgen Klopp and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s sides were forced to settle for a share of the spoils after a 0-0 draw.

Salah’s record of 17 goals and seven assists for Liverpool means he remains the Premier League’s top marksman so far this season.

Although he can count himself lucky that closest rival Sergio Aguero was not in top-flight action for Manchester City over the weekend.

Instead, City faced Chelsea in Sunday’s Carabao Cup final and secured the first competitive silverware of the campaign by winning on penalties.

Aguero will, however, have the opportunity to add to his tally for the 2018/19 term when City take on West Ham on Wednesday night.

City sit a point behind Premier League leaders Liverpool ahead of the showdown and will be hoping Aguero can replicate the hat-trick he scored against Chelsea last time they played at the Etihad.

While Salah and Aguero have both notched 17 goals this season, Tottenham hotshot Harry Kane moved on to 15 by striking against Burnley on Saturday.

A shock inclusion in the starting line up at Turf Moor having only just returned from training, Kane finished with aplomb in the second half.

His effort, though, was not enough to secure a point for Tottenham as Ashley Barnes fired in late on to secure the Clarets’ win.
