Chris Evans: Virgin Radio host teases co-star after he almost makes rude blunder on air

Chris Evans was left in stitches when his co-host Vassos Alexander muffled his words during a live broadcast for his Virgin Radio Breakfast Show. The 52-year-old presenter teased the sports journalist after he almost said “shaggy” instead of “shabby” last week. While discussing the BRIT Awards, which took place on February 20, Vassos attempted to say the phrase “shabby chic”. But he struggled to get the words out and came incredibly close to saying “shaggy”.

The hilarious moment tickled Chris, who could not resist picking on the reporter about his very public gaffe.

“Shabby, shabby a little more shabby, you sure,” the father-of-five laughed.

Continuing to make light of his co-star’s mishap, he asked: “Definitely shabby, no other word that begins with sha and ends in gy?”

But a defiant Vassos replied: “Yes, definitely shabby. No other word. Shabby.”

Since Chris moved to Virgin Radio there has been a number of on-air blunders, including a recent one in which he called Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson “Dwight Johnson”.

The broadcaster told listeners last week the former wrestler was set to run for President at the end of the next US election.

Speaking to Vassos at the time, he announced: “This is massive news about Dwight ‘The Rock’ Johnson.

“Have you heard what he’s going to do? He’s going to stand for President, he’s going to run for for President on the Democrat ticket up against Trump. How cool is that?”

“Thank God,” he added. “Thank God, Amen, Hallelujah. But we’re not quite sure if he’s going to run this time round or in 20— whenever it’s going to be.”

Raving about The Rock’s decision to run, he later referred to the Hollywood actor as “Dwight” a second time.

His team, including Vassos, did not correct his mistake on either occasion.

The Rock, 46, previously teased the possibility of him running for President in the near future.

He said a campaign could happen some day, telling IndieWire: “I’m not ruling out the idea if I could make a bigger impact somehow, or potentially surround myself with good people.”

Insisting he and his manager and ex-wife Dany Garcia, 50, are focused on their production company, Seven Bucks Productions, he said: “We’re staying in our lane.

“I have a lot of friends who are politicians, many former Presidents, senators, former senators, you name it, on every level.”

Chris Evans’ Breakfast Show airs weekdays at 6.30am on Virgin Radio.
