Royal Mint launch 2019 A to Z 10p coins: How to get new Great British Coin Hunt collection

The 10p pieces comes in 26 individual designs, marking some of the Great British icons. The full set of the coins depict something different, so that the first letter of their name fits the English alphabet. First launched last year, this year’s release will see an additional 2.1 million new coins enter circulation. But that’s not all, as uncirculated versions will also be available to buy from the Royal Mint website.

Nicola Howell, Director of Consumer Business at The Royal Mint said: “These 26 individually designed coins, each with a quintessentially British subject, is the first ever commemorative range struck on a 10 pence piece.

“It will be one of the most limited issue coin designs for 2019 to be released into circulation, so to complete the collection we also have an exclusively designed 2019 A to Z collector album.”

The coins will become available in the UK this month.

And, for those keen to get hold of the new coins as soon as possible, they may want to pay a visit to The Royal Mint Experience.

That’s because these special 10ps will be heading into the tills in its gift shop and coffee shop.

The first of the coins in the alphabet makes a nod at the Angel of the North – the famous statue located in Gateshead, near Newcastle.

Bond… James Bond is the title of the second coin in the collection.

As well as a large B, the design also features the code name 007 and a drawing of the spy character’s signature handgun.

Cricket, a double decker bus, and the much-loved full English Breakfast are also celebrated in this collection – as are fish and chips.

Elsewhere in the new coins, collectors will be able to pick up a post box 10p, as well as union flag and Stonehenge design.

The Loch Ness Monster also gets a look in, with the mythical creature’s tail having been wrapped around the large L which also features on the reverse.

Meanwhile, W stands for World Wide Web – representing Tim Berners-Lee’s invention of the internet.

The final coin in the collection, Z, celebrates the UK’s zebra crossings.

The Royal Mint recently released The Gruffalo 50p coin.

A limited edition, these coins feature a portrait of the children’s book character.

These coins can be bought on the Royal Mint website, with the uncirculated coin selling for £10, while a silver proof version costs £65.
