Oscars 2019: Marina De Tavira reveals MIND-BLOWING Roma secret amid Best Picture buzz

The foreign-language movie is a huge contender at tonight’s Oscars. Not only is it up for Best Picture, it’s also the huge bookies’ favourite. And if successful, it will be the first foreign language movie to scoop the accolade. Alfonso Cuaron, the genius behind it, could also stand to win Best Director.

De Tavira, 44, is also up for Best Supporting Actress, with Yalitza Aparicio nominated for Best Actress.

Speaking to Ryan Seacrest on E! on the red carpet show, she cleared up a big rumour about the making of the smash hit.

Did Roma really not have any script?

“He did have a script, perfectly written,” she said – but added that it wasn’t that straightforward.

“He delivered it to us in chronological order – day by day. So we were really immersing in a real-life experience.”

Without being too familiar with what was on the page did, it seem, help the cast to deliver more naturalistic performances.

“I think it really helped (not having a page),” she confirmed.

“At the beginning it sounds difficult and challenging but what he did was set up everything so our acting could be like an experience.”

De Tavira has spoken about this before – she told Screen Daily as the film landed on Netflix last year: “He would give me the scene the day before on paper but it was not complete and he would change things.

“He was always preventing us from anticipating anything.”

Clearly it worked: Roma had glowing reviews and could be the runaway success of the Oscars 2019.
