Carol Vorderman Twitter: 'I'm sad' Countdown star reacts as her 'biggest fan' dies

Carol Vorderman, 58, took the opportunity to give her condolences and admitted she was saddened by the news of her fan’s death. A Twitter user took to the site and wrote: “My partner’s grandad sadly passed on Valentine’s Day. “Bert used to write into Countdown every single week because he was @carolvorders biggest fan…so we are now the proud owners of this beautiful gem.” The social media user referred to a framed photo of the brunette beauty in the early years of her time on the Channel 4 which was signed by the star.

The presenter responded to the heartwarming post as she wrote: “Awww I’m so sad to hear that Bert has passed…genuinely.”

The Twitter user replied: “Thanks Carol.”

The age-defying beauty appeared on Countdown for 26 years alongside Richard Whiteley until his death in 2005.

She left the show in 2008 after being replaced by current mathematician Rachel Riley.

Since then the star has gone onto host shows, Loose Women, ITV’s Lorraine and the Pride of Britain Awards.

Meanwhile, the maths whizz was left “shaking” during an outing with former Top Gear host Richard Hammond.

The star admitted she was anxious when she met a horse following the final race at Ascot last Saturday.

Carol got to greet Subway Surf after she finished third in the Flat race, a form of jump racing.

The unlikely meeting left the TV star weak at the knees, although she was thrilled to have patted the five-year-old mare.

“I was so nervous,” the former Countdown star recounted. “My knees are still shaking.”

On her Twitter account, Carol shared a picture of herself standing beside the delightful horse.

The mother-of-two looked stunning in a bright red coat, which she wore over a turtle neck jumper.

Her hair was worn in tousled waves and she donned a pair of black spectacles and drop-earrings.

Carol went on to gush about the “beautiful” creature and the day’s events at Ascot.

Speaking to the Racing Post she said: “It doesn’t get any better than Ascot. That was amazing.

“It’s the first time I’ve seen her race, and isn’t she beautiful?”
