The new listings, released today, compile the sales of physical and digital movie sales, and surprisingly Bohemian Rhapsody has not soared straight to the top of the pile. Instead, it has to settle for a new entry at No2 – behind A Star Is Born at the summit. But all is not as it seems.
A Star Is Born was released on February 11, giving it a whole week’s worth of sales before the charts were announced.
Bohemian Rhapsody came out five whole days later – on Saturday, February 16; giving it just a few days to play catch-up.
What’s more, it has not been released physically yet: all of its sales to date are through digital platforms such as Amazon Video, Sky Store and iTunes.
It’s physical release follows in a couple of weeks’ time, after the Oscars on March 4.
Elsewhere in this week’s Official Film Chart, former No1 Venom slips to No3, while the 2018 retelling of Halloween is another new entry at No4.
Johnny English Strikes Again slips three places to No5, while The House With A Clock In Its Walls drops to No6.
With Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween at No7, The Greatest Showman drops two to No8.
The Predator (down four) and Night School (up one) round out the Top 10.
Bohemian Rhapsody has five Oscars nominations, including Best Picture, and also Best Actor for leading man Rami Malek – playing Queen icon Freddie Mercury.
Queen will be performing at the ceremony, with regular collaborator Adam Lambert providing the lead vocals.
A Star Is Born is also a contender in many categories, including Best Picture, Actor (for Bradley Cooper) and Actress (for Lady Gaga).
Roma, however, is the bookies’ favourite to win the top honour.
