BBC News: 'Bad boy' Dan Walker cut off by Louise Minchin as pair clash on air

BBC Breakfast was presented this morning by Dan Walker, 41, and Louise Minchin, 50, and the pair usually get along swimmingly.

However, this morning Louise wasn’t very happy with Dan’s use of the term “bad boy”.

He used the phrase while presenting a segment on sharks and the moment took place when he showed a picture of a great white shark.

Dan went on to call it a “bad boy”, and Louise had to object to the negative connotations he was placing upon sharks.

“I’m going to show you this, but just a warning, it’s a shark, but sharks are very important,” began Louise as she held up the picture of a great white shark.

“How important?” asked Dan, and Louise answered: “Very important.”

Her co-host replied: “As long as they stay a long way away.”

Louise said: “This one is a long way away!”

Sports presenter, Sally Nugent then asked Dan whether he needed to go in the “blue room” which is a virtual reality room in which you can put a headset on and come face-to-face with a shark.

“That’s what we need to do! We need to put you in a virtual reality room with 360-degree views of sharks, and then you’ll be cured,” joked Louise.

Dan then added: “Let me just tell you the size of that bad boy. It’s 4.8 metres in length, and it weighs…”

Dan and Louise were stunned by the technical gaffe and went on to discuss the unusual moment.

Making light of the situation, Dan joked: “Oh she’s editing the playlist as you can see there.”

However, Louise appeared genuinely astonished and said: “I can’t believe we’ve just lost Carol like that,” to which Dan replied: “She’s OK by the way and we’ll be with her a little bit later on.”

He continued: “But that is the end of the weather for now, we’ll sort that out for you, and we’ll be back with Carol.

“That was very dramatic, she just went, and we got the blue screen of doom.”

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays on BBC One at 6am.
