MasterChef 2019: ‘Way too much!’ Viewers puzzled as they spot mistake

Gregg, 54, and John, 53, were on hand as the first quarter final of Masterchef 2019 got underway this evening, with the six winners of the first round of heats returned to the kitchen.

With their place in the BBC cooking competition at stake, the remaining contestants were asked to create a game dish, a brief laid out to them by food critic William Sitwell, 49.

After preparing their dishes for an hour and a half, the contestants were then introduced to William as he told them he was looking for an original plate of food.

One by one, the budding chefs brought their dishes to the counter for William, Gregg and John to taste.

As the judges were divided by some of the contestants dishes, viewers at home noticed the meat presented seemed to be a little undercooked.

When contestant Annabelle presented her game dish, the judges described it as glowing, blown away by her efforts once more which led the budding chef to break down in tears.

Taking to Twitter, one viewer posted in response to Annabelle’s commendation: “I’m not sure I want to eat any food that’s described as “glowing” lol!! #MasterChefUK #MasterChef.”

Another added: “It’s “glowing” because it’s still raw #MasterChef,” but the output didn’t stop there as with more contestants presenting their game dishes, the more concerned viewers became at home.

A third remarked: “Way too much pink meat going on. #MasterChefUK #masterchef,” whilst a fourth commented: “Omg that grouse is so undercooked #masterchef #MasterChefUK.

Continuing the outpour, a fifth commented: “Just come down to living room. #masterchef is on TV. First words, “That is practically raw.” #notforme.”

However, other viewers were pleased by the budding chefs offerings, with one posting in response to Annabelle’s dish: “Love the look of Annabelle’s food on #masterchef love her!!!”

Another added: “Annabel is going to win #MasterChef – that plate of food looks better than many of the dishes served up during the finals week. Phenomenal.”

Although viewers picked up on the undercooked meat, the judges didn’t make reference to the cooking of the meat until contestant Tim served up his dish.

After trying the dish, John and William commented on the preparation of the meat which they wren’t too pleased with.

Commending Tim on roasting the bird, John added: “Your skin however is insipid and chewy,” with William the passing comment.

“The skin wasn’t really very edible. I think you needed to have cooked that more,” the food critic remarked.

However, Gregg wasn’t fussed and had to state his disagreement with his fellow judges, adding: “I like it.”

After trying all the dishes, it was up to Gregg and John to decide which three quart-finalist’s would progresses to the next stage.

Tim and Annabelle managed to secure their place in the semifinal which will air in a few weeks time.

Earlier this week, John refused to eat a chicken dish as he believed the contestant had undercooked the meat.

MasterChef continues Wednesday at 8pm on BBC One.
