Lewis Hamilton: Mercedes F1 star will LOVE what McLaren ace Lando Norris said about him

Hamilton is raring to go ahead of the new F1 season having got to grips with his new Mercedes W10 in a shakedown run on Wednesday.

And this year he has the opportunity to surpass Juan Manuel Fangio and move on to six World Drivers’ Championship titles.

F1 legend Michael Schumacher would then be in touching distance, having won the crown seven times during his spells at Benetton and Ferrari.

Lewis Hamilton’s achievements already mean he is one of the most successful drivers in the history of motorsport.

Norris has now showered praise on the 34-year-old, whose footsteps he has followed in by starting his F1 career with McLaren.

“I’m definitely proud to be to be the youngest [British driver],” Norris said at McLaren’s launch event on Thursday.

“I think it’s a very big achievement, a cool achievement, to be able to say it and see it.

“But I haven’t rung up Lewis – I don’t even know his number – I haven’t tried going out of my way to seek advice from people I don’t necessarily know personally.

“I’ve always looked up to him as a driver. He is a driver I admire a lot because of how amazing he is. He is one of the best of all time.

“It’s amazing and awesome for a driver to see someone like him and how good he is, how he works.

“It’s not just British drivers, I think it doesn’t matter if you’re a British driver.

“I think me wanting to be the best I can, I just learn from anyone, whether it’s from Carlos [Sainz], Fernando [Alonso] or Stoffel [Vandoorne], there’s things I’ve learned from all of them which will help me improve.”

Norris will be desperate to replicate the success Hamilton has enjoyed since making his F1 debut back in 2007.

Motorsport expert Tony Jardine has hailed the McLaren ace – while pointing to the biggest threat to Hamilton’s hopes of matching Schumacher’s haul of seven titles.

“Now we’ve got two new Brits joining in George Russell, who just won the Formula 2 championship and is going to Williams, and Lando Norris, from Formula 2 as well,” Jardine exclusively told Express Sport.

“Both of those two have got impeccable CVs so far. But [Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc is] where Lewis is looking to the threats that might prevent him from beating Schumacher’s record.”
