OnePlus had a busy year launching some of the best and most affordable smartphones of 2018.
Over the past 12 months the Chinese firm released devices including the OnePlus 6, OnePlus 6T and 6T McLaren edition.
Now it seems all that work may have paid off with a recent report from leading analyst firm, IDC, confirming OnePlus is now one of the top five smartphone brands.
According to IDC, OnePlus was able to ship enough volume in the last quarter of 2018 to bag a top spot in terms of market share of smartphones costing over $500 in the US.
“It’s been over five years since we launched our first phone in the US, initially as an online-only offering,” said OnePlus CEO, Pete Lau. “We’re proud of how far we’ve come and even more excited about the future ahead.”
OnePlus’ success in the US follows the news of OnePlus being the best-selling premium brand in India in 2018, according to Counterpoint Research.
Additionally, according to Counterpoint’s recently released Q4 2018 report, the company has also captured 36 per cent of India’s premium smartphone market, retaining its number one position for three quarters consecutively.
Although it’s been a good year for OnePlus the firm is facing increased competition in the mid-range phone market.
Honor has recently released its sub £500 View 20 device which has been universally praised and other devices from Xiaomi and Oppo are also bringing top specs at a reduced price.
Motorola has also just announced its new range of Moto G7 phones which also bring some big performance for under £300.
OnePlus is sure to release a new device in the coming months and the company has also confirmed that it will be launching a 5G ready smartphone at some point this year.
With Samsung also set to release its new flagship next week and Mobile World Congress opening its doors on February 25, it’s certainly an exciting time for anyone looking to upgrade their current smartphone.
