EastEnders spoilers: Tanya Branning won’t be returning to the soap – Jo Joyner reveals why

EastEnders fans got very excited the briefest second when it was rumoured that Jo Joyner might back a comeback on the soap.

She famously played Tanya Branning from 2006 until her exit in 2013 and fans were really looking forward to seeing the character return.

She was left after her romance with Sean Slater (Robert Kazinsky) came to an end.

Sean recently made a comeback, which sparked speculation that Tanya was going to follow him back onto the soap, yet Jo has now ruled out that possibility.

During an interview with The Sun the actress revealed: “There is always scope as long as you have got family that are in the show but not for me at the moment.”

EastEnders’ producer, Kate Oates, was the one behind Rob’s return, and Jo had nothing but positive things to say about the former Coronation Street boss.

“Kate Oates is formidable. Knowing her work from other shows she’s been in, and I’ve met her, I think she is a real force, and she will be great for the show,” she said.

Fans were hoping to see Tanya return after the character appeared in two episodes of the BBC soap back in 2015.

The appearances were part of the show’s 30th anniversary, and her return was never indented to be permanent, yet fans were hoping it would happen regardless.

Back when Tanya was in Walford, she was married to Max Branning (Jake Wood), yet she ended up dating Sean after she and Max split up.

Rob returned to EastEnders after having spent ten years away and appeared in a few Hollywood productions.

The actor was in movies such as Pacific Rim, Hot Pursuit and Warcraft: The Beginning.

“I have always felt that my best work was on EastEnders as Sean Slater,” he revealed.

“I have unfinished business in Albert Square and am thrilled to be returning to what I still consider to be my home.”

Even though Jo has denied the rumours, fans will still hold hope of seeing her return to EastEnders in the future.
