Dak Prescott shuns Tom Brady type deal ahead of Cowboys contract talks

Prescott took home $725,848 last season, which ranks him at 55th among NFL passers.

Not surprisingly the Cowboys quarterback wants a new deal this offseason and Dallas appear ready to begin talks.

Tom Brady took home around $15million last season as he helped the Patriot win their sixth Super Bowl.

However, Prescott admits this team-friendly deal is not enough for him.

“Nobody’s wife makes as much money as his wife does either,” Prescott said of Brady’s supermodel partner Gisele Bundchen – she earned a reported $10m in 2018 and $17.5m in 2017.

“When Tom Brady isn’t the breadwinner in the home, then that’s a great problem to have.

“So in that case, he can do that. He can do his contract however you want to do it.”

Prescott will be a unrestricted free agent in 2020 and wants a salary equal to his worth.

“I think the team knows how to pay what’s deserved,” Prescott told USA TODAY before the Super Bowl.

“And pay those other people at the same time what’s deserved without being frugal.”

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers banked a reported $33.5m last season as they went 6-9 and missed out on the playoffs.

In comparison, Prescott led the Cowboys to the NFC East title with a 10-6 record.

Dallas also progressed to the divisional round of the playoffs before losing to the Los Angeles Ram 30-22.

Prescott has made it clear he has a preference to stay in Dallas, but Cowboys executive Stephen Jones has admitted there’s limited leeway on contract details.

“I think the market is what the market is,” Jones said.

“We’ve all seen it. So, I think, you know, there’s not really a lot to get a feel for in terms of knowing what it is.

“I think the contracts are out there for everybody to see.

“It’s always good to be a quarterback though. Especially one that wins, is a winner.”

This will be the first offseason where Prescott has the opportunity to renegotiate his terms and he’s in a strong position after winning seven of his last eight regular-season games.

He finished the 2018/19 season with a a passer rating of 96.9, after having thrown for 3,885 yards and 22 touchdowns.

“People are going to question and I want them to,” Prescott said.

“I don’t care. I am here where I am today because of the people always saying what I couldn’t or could do.

“It’s almost comical sometimes. if I hear it or allow myself to get involved in the talk, sometimes it’s comical.

“But I just keep going out there and just doing what I know I can do best.”
