Debbie McGee: Strictly star speaks out on being ‘terribly vain’ amid breast cancer battle

Debbie McGee, 60, recently opened up about being diagnosed with breast cancer, which she has put down to the “stress” of losing her husband Paul Daniels. The former Strictly star has opened up in a candid interview where some of her first thoughts were if she would be scarred after having to undergo surgery. In an interview with The Sun, she revealed the doctors advised her to have a mastectomy but had offered her other options. She said: “I had my mammogram and they referred me to a surgeon, there and then, at the hospital.

“You can imagine the shock is unbelievable. You think about how you’re going to be left, you think of all the worst things. Are you going to be scarred being a woman? Am I going to be deformed and have a lumpy bosom?’

“All of those things crowd your head. You really do worry. It sounds terribly vain.”

Paul Daniels’ widow was diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer in October and had the affected areas removed last month.

The star also revealed she thought about her late husband Paul during her cancer treatment, saying: “I thought of him. The only time I talk to Paul is when there are certain situations I have to make a decision on.”

Meanwhile, Debbie has since made a return to BBC Radio Berkshire last week after wrapping up her pantomime performance.

Her pal, Paul Coia, uploaded a snap of the two of them in the studio, beaming to the camera.

Paul wrote beside the image, share on his Twitter account: “The Sunday morning team back together again after a few months.

“Great to see Debbie looking so well. @BBCBerkshire @thedebbiemcgee.”

The former magician’s assistant re-posted the image but was unimpressed as she took aim at her co-star.

In view of her 41,000 followers, she wrote: ”P this has to be my worst photograph ever.

“I realise you just wanted to show off your sun tan.”

Paul jokingly replied: “Wait till you see the other photo.”

But her fans flocked to comment on the snap admitting the age-defying beauty looked well.

One fan wrote: Debbie you look amazing! x.”

Another gushed: “To me you still look like a princess stunning xx.”

A third said: “You’ve been through so much and still smiling and looking well.”
