Doctor Who spoilers: BBC REJECTED Hollywood star in shock casting 'They were like, Um, no'

Whoopi Goldberg has let slip she asked Doctor Who executives if she could play the first female Time Lord.

The 63-year-old Hollywood actress spoke of her ambition to portray the legendary character on David Tennant’s podcast.

However, the mother-of-one was rejected by BBC bosses, who later gave the role to British actress Jodie Whittaker.

Recounting the moment she reached out to the producers, she told the 47-year-old actor: “The idea of that just made me happy.”

Unfortunately, they declined her offer to play the thirteenth Doctor, with her saying: “But they were like, ‘Um no’.”

Revealing her fascination with sci-fi, she added: “I always felt like science fiction predicted the future.

“Whether it was climate change, hand computers or being able to move around in different dimensions.”

The film star has longed to be apart of the long-running sci-fi series and previously spoke about her desire to star in the show.

“I always hope when I come to England the BBC will say, ‘Hey we want you to do something’. I would love that,” she told The Sun.

“You have a different quality now on television. The way you guys have always done shows has always been the smartest and we’ve finally just figured it out.”

She continued: “I like the idea of doing things the way y’all do them, you do some really fun stuff like Black Mirror or, you know, I’m still dying to do Doctor Who.”

Whoopi, the host of the US daytime show The View, is one of the few actresses to be awarded an Emmy, an Oscar, a Tony and a Grammy title.

Actress Jodie was announced as the first female Doctor in 2017 and is currently filming for the new series.

At the time, she said: “I’m beyond excited to begin this epic journey with Chris and with every Whovian on this planet.

“It’s more than an honour to play the Doctor. It means remembering everyone I used to be, while stepping forward to embrace everything the Doctor stands for: hope. I can’t wait.”

Meanwhile, Doctor Who’s executive producer Chris Chibnall admitted he hoped the thirteenth Doctor would be a woman.

“I always knew I wanted the thirteenth Doctor to be a woman and we’re thrilled to have secured our number one choice,” he divulged.

“Her audition for The Doctor simply blew us all away.”

He went on to say: “Jodie is an in-demand, funny, inspiring, super-smart force of nature and will bring loads of wit, strength and warmth to the role.”

Doctor Who is due to return to BBC One in early 2020, according to the show’s official Twitter page.
