Nightflyers on Netflix: Thale and Karl's true relationship EXPOSED in unexpected twist

Nightflyers comes from the mind of George R.R. Martin – the creator behind Game of Thrones.

And while there are no dragons present (yet) in the psychological space thriller, its plot is sure to keep viewers guessing.

The first spanner in the works saw Karl D’Branin (played by Eoin Macken) welcoming Thale (Sam Strike) onto the ship.

Thale is an incredibly powerful telepath, whose powers allow him to implant thoughts and visions into people’s head.

However Thane is classed as an L1 – a telepath with a homicidal history, which inevitably causes a lot of problems with the ship’s crew.

Despite this, Karl is eager to keep Thale on his good side as the show progresses.

Express.co.uk caught up with Eoin to discuss Karl’s story throughout the show.

On Thale and Karl’s relationship Eoin explained: “Their relationship actually progresses from one of a mutual fear to a bit more of an understanding.”

However Karl is never innocent, in Eoin’s eyes, as he went on to talk about Thale’s involvement in the mission.

He continued: “But Thale has been brought on by Karl almost as a tool – which I think gets lost a little bit – but that’s what he’s done.

“He’s brought in a telepath, and he doesn’t trust telepaths, but he’s kind of brought him on to utilise him to help him communicate with the Volcryn.”

It quickly becomes obvious to Thale he is important to Karl for his own selfish reasons.

“Thale is aware of that as well,” Eoin went on. “That he’s there at D’Branin’s discretion.”

This doesn’t sit well with Thale, and could bring a great deal of conflict in the later half of the season.

Eoin concluded: “Fundamentally, their relationship is fractured from the beginning.

“Because there’s a certain kind of authority divisiveness there, and Thale is being told what to do and being used.”

But as the show continues, Thale and Karl are surely going to continue crossing paths – but will they remain mutually beneficial to each other?

After the brutal Thale reveal at the end of episode two, Karl may struggle to trust him anymore.

But as Karl is one of the few lifelines Thale has, they may be stuck together in the final episodes.

Nightflyers is available on Netflix.
