‘I’ve been VERY stupid’ – Right-wing firebrand Ann Coulter TURNS on Trump over border wall

Ms Coulter made the comment on HBO show ‘Real Time with Bill Maher’. On Friday, Trump approved a deal ending the Government shutdown which does not include funding for a border wall. However the reprieve is only temporary, with the shutdown set to resume in February if a new agreement isn’t reached.

Ms Coulter told host Bill Maher Trump had broken “the promise he made every day for 18 months” by failing to secure funding for a wall.

Mr Maher replied, to laughter from the audience, “now you’re finding out he’s a lying con man”, to which Ms Coulter responded: “Okay, I’m a very stupid girl, fine.”

She went on to criticise “mass immigration” commenting: “It’s great for the rich, bad for people who work.

“It’s good for me, but I care about my fellow Americans and the working class.”

The US government shutdown began at midnight on December 22 2018, after Trump refused to sign a finance bill unless it provided $5.7billion (£4.3billion) in funding for his border wall.

This funding was repeatedly blocked by Democrats in Congress.

During the shutdown 800,000 government workers went without pay, with some still being expected to turn up to work.

The shutdown, the longest in US history, ended on January 25 when Trump agreed a stopgap funding bill to reopen the Government for three weeks, which didn’t include wall funding.

Ms Coulter responded angrily on Twitter stating: “Good news for George Bush: As of today, he is no longer the biggest wimp ever to serve as President of the United States.”

In December she warned Trump is “dead in the water if he doesn’t build that wall”.

Trump continued to insist a border wall will be constructed.

In his speech announcing the end of the shutdown he commented: “We really have no choice but to build a powerful wall or steel barrier.

“If we don’t get a fair deal from Congress, the government will either shut down on February 15, again, or I will use the powers afforded to me under the laws and the Constitution of the United States to address this emergency”.

The President had previously said he could declare a national emergency to secure wall funding, though this would likely face legal challenge.
