Xperia XZ4 is the assumed name for the Xperia XZ3’s successor.

While the latter marked a return to form for Sony smartphones, the XZ4 is anticipated to up the ante significantly.

Ahead of its expected reveal, rumours about the new Xperia handset have been heating up, potentially offering a tantalising glimpse at its best features.

But now Express.co.uk has collated every leak, piece of speculation and render of the handset to give Android fans the best idea of what could be coming from Sony.

Design

While Sony radically reduced bezels on its Xperia XZ3 handset, the firm is expected to present even smaller borders around the XZ4’s panel.

Notable tipster Ice Universe recently posted images of an alleged screen protector for the handset that displayed an outline of its panel.

The Xperia XZ4 was shown to come with extremely tiny bezels on its top and bottom without a notch.

Such a design choice is similar to what is currently offered on the Galaxy Note 9.

However, the most noticeable feature about the device was how tall the display shown was.

The Xperia XZ4 has been claimed to have a panel with a 21:9 aspect ratio, a form factor which would be incredibly unique for a smartphone.

Ice Universe insisted the handset’s screen was “similar” in length to the iPhone Xs Max, demonstrating its sheer scale.

He wrote: “I received the tempered film of the Sony Xperia XZ4.This phone is too long.

“After measuring, the length of the XZ4 screen is 15.2cm, which is similar to the length of the iPhone Xs Max.”

The design showcased by the alleged screen protectors appeared to be echoed by recent renders of the handset that emerged via Olixar.

The product was shown featuring a glass build with three cameras on its rear, suggesting Xperia fans are set for a substantial photography improvement.

It is important to note no physical fingerprint sensor was shown on the back panel of the phone.

This suggests Sony could embed the reader underneath the phone’s display or feature it within the power button for the flagship.

Performance

The Sony Xperia XZ4 is expected to be powered by Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 855 processor and come with at least 6GB of RAM onboard.

The new chipset should deliver rapid performance across Google’s Android 9 Pie operating system.

Last week an alleged image of the Xperia XZ4’s home screen emerged on Weibo and hinted the handset could support Google’s gesture navigations.

When the American tech giant unveiled Android 9 Pie in August it was quick to discuss its new method of accessibility.

In particular, Google declared such actions should make navigating on tall devices easier overall.

The Mountain View firm said: “Making your phone smarter and more adaptive is important, but we also want Android to be easier to use and more approachable.

“In Android 9, we’ve introduced a new system navigation featuring a single home button.

“This is especially helpful as phones grow taller and it’s more difficult to get things done on your phone with one hand.

“With a single, clean home button, you can swipe up to see a newly designed Overview, the spot where at a glance you have full-screen previews of your recently used apps.”

The claimed home menu for the Xperia XZ4 appeared to show the same pill-shaped home button that is found on the Google Pixel 3.

The button allows users to swipe up to access the device’s app drawer and multitasking menu.

Moreover, a press on the symbol takes the user back home.

It is also worth noting Android 9 Pie gesture navigations still present the user with a traditional back button, too.

While the Pixel 3 does not let users revert back to the operating system’s signature three-button combination at the bottom, it is currently unknown if the Xperia XZ4 will allow users to switch.

ZackBuks took the claimed home screen from the XZ4 and placed it on alleged renders of the hardware to provide would could be the best look at the phone yet.

Camera

Rumours and leaks have suggested the Xperia XZ4 will come with three cameras on its rear and one on its front.

It is currently unknown what the function of each rear sensor could be.

It is possible the Japanese OEM could take cues from the Huawei Mate 20 Pro and LG V40 by employing a standard, wide-angle and telephoto lens.

However, it is worth noting this has not been officially discussed in any capacity from Sony.
