BBC News: ‘Have I interrupted something?’ Charlie Stayt BAFFLED by co-host's blunder

Charlie, 56, had just finished an interview with Naga Munchetty, 43, on BBC Breakfast when he crossed over to Ben, 35, in Dumfries.

Ben was reporting from the whiskey distillery to explain the impact Brexit was going to have on the industry.

The BBC presenters passed the reigns to him many times throughout the morning, however at this particular moment, Ben was caught unawares.

As Charlie spoke to Ben, the camera switched to the business reporter speaking with a member of staff who was blocking the view of the presenter.

Crossing over to Ben, Charlie said: “Let’s see what else is coming up this morning. Ben is Dumfries for us and talking about Brexit.

“A lot of chat Ben,” Charlie continued before he realised Ben was unprepared.

Charlie told the business reporter: “You seem to be having far too much fun there.

“Have I interrupted something?” the BBC Breakfast presenter enquired, before trying to carry on with his handover to Ben.

However, Naga interrupted him to explain why the reporter may be distracted, joking about Ben was drinking as he was in a whiskey distillery.

“I think he’s got whiskey in that mug. Have you got whiskey in that mug?” Naga asked.

Realising the studio hosts were trying to hand over to him, Ben responded with a grin on his face: “I promise you this is coffee, I assure you this is coffee.”

The reporter then jumped in to speak about the Scottish distillery, trying to move on from the blunder.

“What’s interesting about being in this part of the distillery this morning, you’re only allowed to stay here for a limited amount of time because such is the alcohol vapour in the air,” he joked.

“I might not make it to the end of the show.”

Explaining why he was at the venue, Ben said: “We’re here because we’re talking about what happens to this industry after Brexit. One of our biggest exports is whiskey.”
