Tom Kerridge weight loss: Chef shares recipe for ‘healthy, guilt-free' chocolate treat

Tom Kerridge famously lost 12 stone in weight, after making a number of changes to his lifestyle. The Michelin-starred chef used to weigh almost 30 stone. But, by ditching alcohol and following a dopamine diet, the TV regular, now 45, shed a huge amount of weight. And, with the help of his improved exercise regime, Tom cuts a much healthier figure. And now, he’s making it his mission to help others to lead healthier lives through his Fresh Start plan.

During his BBC Two show tonight, Tom suggested one way in which families could enjoy a well known treat – without packing in all of the calories.

The chef suggested that rather than picking up a tub of high-calorie ice-cream from a shop, viewers could whip up the dish by themselves at home.

“My banana choc ices are a healthy guilt-free way to keep the kids and grown-ups happy and they’re so easy to make,” he insisted.

Tom proceeded to explain that all that was required was banana, yoghurt and a little bit of vanilla extract – blended together until smooth.

Then, the mixture should be poured into reusable ice cream moulds, before a lolly stick is added.

Freeze for about three hours, and then cover them in melted dark chocolate which has been mixed with coconut oil.

To finish, Tom advised sprinkling on toppings.

And, the chef advised using good quality 70 per cent dark chocolate, adding: “It’s lower in sugar and it works so nicely with the bananas.

“With these delicious choc ices, upping our everyday fruit intake is a treat, not a chore.”

Elsewhere in the episode, Tom helped one couple make a healthier version of fish and chips.

His home-cooked alternative to the junk food favourite featured breaded plaice and potato wedges.

Last week, Tom shared one of his recipes with viewers, as he explained how to make healthy pizzas.

And, the TV star insisted it wouldn’t take long to whip up the meal from scratch.

In fact, the delicious recipe could be achieved with just a small amount of preparation – before the product is put in the oven for 10 minutes.
